In this section you will find information on internet cookies, the cookies that may be set when you visit MEET Project website

By accepting the cookies, you will accept the cookies for MEET Project website

What is a cookie and how does it work?

A cookie is a small amount of data, which often includes a unique identifier that is sent to your computer, tablet or mobile phone (referred to here as a “device”) browser from a website’s server and is stored on your device’s hard drive. The cookie will be sent back to the server at your next visit of the website. The website will then recognize your specific browser-device combination. Many websites do this because cookies enable website publishers to find out whether the device (and probably its user) has visited the website before and to tailor the website to the users preferences (such as language).

Types of cookies

Functional cookies are cookies that are necessary for the optimal functionality of a website. These cookies (i) have the sole purpose of carrying out the transmission of communication over an electronic network or (ii) are strictly necessary for the provision of an information service requested by the user. Examples include cookies that remember the items in an online shopping basket, or cookies that can remember login details. Other cookies can be separated in analytic cookies and tracking cookies.

Analytic cookies are cookies that collect anonymous statistical information on the use of the website in order to improve a websites functionalities. Examples include cookies that collect information of the amount of visitors on a website, or the amount of time that a visitor spends on a website.

Tracking cookies are stored on a users’ device in between browser sessions which allows the preferences or actions of the user across a site, or across different websites, to be remembered. Tracking cookies may be used for the purpose of collecting, combining or analysing information on the use of a website for commercial purposes. Examples include the collection of information for target advertisement.

The rules apply both to first party cookies as to third party cookies. First party cookies are set by the website you are visiting and they can only be read by that site. Third party cookies are set by a different organisation to the owner of the website you are visiting. For example, the website might use a third party analytics company who will set their own cookie to perform this service. The website you are visiting may also contain content embedded from for example YouTube or Flickr, and these sites may set their own cookies.
